Students who successfully complete the Engineering Academy program and meet the eligibility requirements will receive a one-time, partial financial scholarship towards their pursuit of postsecondary education in engineering (and additionally, for job training in the U.K.). You can read the eligibility requirements here.
If you have any questions about the Engineering Academy Scholarship please email NEscholarships@fhi360.org.
Review the Policy
Read the eligibility requirements and make sure that you understand the criteria. Only students who meet all the criteria will be eligible for a scholarship. Talk with your Academy coordinator if you have questions about eligibility.
Share Your Plans
Your Academy coordinators will collect your contact information and ask about your postsecondary plans (college, university, or apprenticeship). Students should use an email address that they can access after Engineering Academy is completed, so avoid school emails that may be inaccessible after graduation.
Submit Your Documents
Using the Monday.com platform, you will submit copies of your eligibility documents. This will include things like your acceptance letters and proof of enrollment. Check your email frequently for instructions on how to submit and confirmations that we've received your documents. Each Academy site will follow the timeline and process outlined for their country. Please pay attention to the deadlines for your site!
Receive Scholarship
Students who successfully complete all of the eligibility requirements and enroll in a qualified engineering program will receive the scholarship. Sign up for the payment portal and review the scholarship acknowledgement letter to receive your payments.
Visit your country page for more details about the scholarship application process.
What are Next Engineers scholarships intended to cover?
The funds are intended solely for educational purposes. This may include tuition fees, lodging, textbooks, academic supplies, and/or other expenses directly related to your education and/or apprenticeship.
My information has changed, can I re-submit a new form?
Yes, please complete the form again and resubmit it. Students will receive an email as the forms become available, and the form links will be available on the website at https://www.nextengineers.org/academy-scholarship-information. Please use the forms designated for your country.
How will I know if I am meeting the Academy completion requirements and am on track to receive the scholarship?
Community partners will track and communicate with students about all Academy requirements (such as attendance). Students should reach out to their community partner organization (University of Cincinnati, Clemson University, TILG, or Protec) if they have questions about the Academy requirements or their status.
What if I complete all Academy requirements but don't get accepted into an eligible program, or get accepted but choose to defer?
Students will have until the start of the following academic year from their Academy graduation to enroll in an eligible program, whether a higher education program or apprenticeship. Students who do not enroll into an eligible program within that year will no longer be scholarship-eligible. Deferments extending beyond one year will only be considered under exceptional circumstances and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

What if I decide to change majors, transfer schools, or withdraw from the apprenticeship or school midway through the first year?
The scholarship is non-transferable in cases of the student discontinuing study in an eligible higher education program. You must remain in an eligible program to receive the second payment.
Under no circumstances will a student be asked to repay their scholarship.
How will I receive my scholarship? When?
After following the directions on the Next Engineers Scholarships Platform, including completing the required forms, funds will be delivered directly to the student’s bank account or the student's university account, depending on the city in which the student attended academy.
FHI 360 will distribute scholarships within 45 days of receiving all completed forms from a scholarship-eligible student.
Do students need their own bank account to receive the scholarship?
Depending on the city in which the student attended Next Engineers Academy, the student may receive the scholarship payment directly to their personal bank account. In this case, scholarship payments will be made only to a bank account that includes the student’s name as an account holder. Parents or guardians can also be listed on the account.
Is my scholarship taxable?
Each person’s tax situation is different; please consult with a tax preparer or your school’s financial aid office in your country for more information.
Does a tuition payment have to be made before receiving the first scholarship payment?
In order to receive the first scholarship payment, students must provide proof of enrollment. This can be completed in one of two ways:
- Provide a copy of a class list; OR
- Provide a copy of the initial tuition payment (this includes an initial deposit to enroll)
Can the scholarship payment be split across multiple academic years or into more than two payments?
No. The scholarship is nonrenewable and will be distributed across the first two grading periods of the first year of study.
What if the scholarship amount exceeds the cost of education for the first year?
Students will still receive the full scholarship amount. Students are free to apply scholarships towards subsequent years as they see fit.
Can I submit the FAFSA before choosing a school? (U.S. students only)
Yes, you can submit the FAFSA before choosing a school. Students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA as soon as it becomes available in order to access other funding opportunities. Learn more about the FAFSA at: https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa
Can I apply to a college or university outside of my home country?
Yes, students may apply to any college or university they wish. However, the scholarship amount will remain the same and students will need to follow the same process as other students in their home country.
What if I want to enlist in the military? Would I still be eligible for the scholarship?
Students can enlist in the military, but must still apply for and be accepted into an approved engineering program in order to be eligible for the scholarship. Students will need to enroll in an eligible engineering program within 1 year of the conclusion of Engineering Academy.
Does physics qualify for the scholarship? What about computer science?
You can find a list of eligible, engineering-related fields in the Engineering Academy Scholarship Eligibility policy (updated in March 2024). Physics is listed as eligible, but computer science is not.
For majors or programs not listed in the policy, students will be asked to provide a written statement (no more than 300 words) describing the relevance of this major or program to their intended engineering career. FHI 360 will review the statement and notify the student regarding major or program approval and scholarship eligibility.
If I have more questions about the scholarship, who should I contact?
