We will deliver 7 workshops for Year 9 students at Blessed William Howard Catholic High School (Stafford) on 24th November 2021.
The activity is called the Toxic Popcorn Challenge and introduces students to the engineering design process (EDP), the process engineers use to solve design challenges. Students work in teams to design a product and process to safely remove ‘toxic’ popcorn. The popcorn has an estimated safe life of exactly 5 minutes before it explodes. Students will build and test a system to transfer the popcorn to a safe container for decontamination before it contaminates and destroys the entire city.
The workshops will be led by General Electric volunteers from the Stafford office, and facilitators Ben and Vicki from Connectr. The workshops will reach 188 students across the day.
