In 2024, GE Aerospace Volunteers, led by Nate Woods from GE Aerospace Addis Ababa, worked hard to build partnerships and expand the Next Engineers: Global Discovery program across Africa. Through a series of events, they connected with students and promoted careers in aviation. Here’s a look at the impactful activities held throughout last year!

Next Engineers Event at Air Force Comprehensive School (AFCS) in Uyo, Nigeria
In partnership with Ibom Air, GE Aerospace and Ibom engineers engaged with over 80 middle and high school students at AFCS Uyo. The event featured GE Aerospace Senior Field Service Engineer Francis Umuoapobio, an alumnus of AFCS Uyo, who shared his inspiring journey from student to aviation professional.
Next Engineers Event at Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts et des Metiers (ENSAM), Morocco
GE Aerospace collaborated with Royal Air Maroc to connect with more than 25 university students, including those pursuing bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD degrees. This event provided valuable insights into the work of GE Aerospace and highlighted career opportunities in the aviation industry.
Next Engineers Event with Ethiopian Airlines
GE Aerospace partnered with Ethiopian Airlines to host 25 local secondary students at the Ethiopian Airlines MRO and Aviation University. The students had the chance to tour the only GEnx and LEAP engine shop in Africa, gaining a firsthand look at cutting-edge aviation technology.
GE Aerospace Volunteers at Elimu Village in Rwanda
In collaboration with RwandAir, GE Aerospace Volunteers helped build a security fence and entryway at Elimu Village, a K-6 school located in Rwanda’s Eastern Province. The event was filled with excitement as parents, staff, and students worked together, welcoming the team with a traditional Rwandese dance. Volunteers also engaged with students, sharing advice on how to pursue careers in aviation through studies in math and science.
These events emphasized the importance of education and inspired the next generation to explore careers in aviation!
