The last Engineering Academy 2024 sessions for our Second and Third cohorts have started. We kicked off with Cohort 3 reflecting on their Self-Portrait results as they continued with their Career Interest Surveys, a very important activity in their journey of discovering what exactly their prospective careers entail. During the activity, they had to match their top personality traits to careers that require them. Interestingly, not all careers that came up matched with those that the learners had initially chosen. As a result, some were not sure what exactly their future careers would be, others were still firm in what they had initially chosen. It would be interesting to see what paths they finally decide to follow.
Cohort 2 had a visit from three GE Volunteers who had a discussion about Employee Resource Groups that are available at GE, why they are important, who can join them, etc. This sparked a lot of interest from among the learners as they realized that they belong to teams at their schools that fall under Resource Groups. The GE volunteers also shared their journeys in their careers and how the Employee Resource Groups they were a part of impacted them and how they grew within the company. The entire session was interactive as learners were asking and answering questions around the available ERGs and even the possibilities of them starting their own Resource Group when they get into the working environment.
Both cohorts will be starting with their final Design Challenges on the 31st of August. Cohort 3 will be exploring the Power of Wind activity, which is a Design Challenge that will have them designing wind-powered generators. Cohort 2, on the other hand, will be tackling Glide Path, where they have to design gliders that have to achieve the given criteria and still keep to the constraints.
