Last month, both Cohorts of Engineering Academy students were given the task of designing and building packaging for the Plants on The Move challenge! Students worked in teams as packaging designers for a new company to design and build packaging to safely and cost-effectively ship a potted plant from Staffordshire University to the GE City Team in Staffordshire!
Although the idea of creating a box may have seemed simple, students quickly realised there was more to consider than originally thought! To meet the criteria successfully, students needed to make sure the plant remained unbroken and intact on delivery, survive at least 48 hours shipping duration, be as cheap as possible to make using reusable and recyclable material, make the packaging attractive, and provide helpful information on how to care for the plant. That's a tall order!
Take a look at how some of the plants arrived at GE!
